I am currently using Control pack presets in a similar method. My setup is to take the mic pres on the AX64 to switch its routing directly to feed either Thunderbolt(Thundercore) inputs to the DAW. Or send the Mic pre to a Dante output > UAD x16D (for UAD processing over Dante) > x16d to Dante input > Thunderbolt input to the DAW. So It is basically used as Insert Send and Returns for my analog inputs/DAW inputs for the AX64. More than 4 routing presets would be very helpful and will allow me to clean up how I had to set it up.
Not out of the realm of possibility. The Focusrite MP8R units are able to be controlled by most of the high end Yamaha Consoles. Along with a handful of wireless units from their consoles. It would be cool to have this on the DAD products. But I would want them to make it easier for the Mic Pres to be controlled just outside of DADman before having control from a third party console.
Hey Nathanael. Just to start I am a user and I do not work for DAD. Your issue is that the cards that you pulled from your MTRX are not compatible with the AX64. The Avid branded cards have firmware on it to block them from being interchangeable with the DAD chassis. You would either need to buy DAD cards and get rid of the Avid cards. Or buy the new Avid MTRX chassis with thunderbolt option to repurpose your old MTRX cards.
It sucks that they are not interchangeable, because physically they are the same cards. But this is how Avid is making their money off of the hardware.
If you still have your MTRX Chassis, pop your cards back in there. Route your cards I/o via either Madi or Dante to your AX64 until you sort things out. This will get you running again. Just make sure the MTRX is clocked to the AX64.
I have a DADman feature request. I have deployed a bunch of AX Centers and AX64 units for a major broadcast/production company all with DADmom units to control Production Control Rooms. I would like to extend the ability to use the Monitor section only to users that locks them out from any other functions of the units routing/configs/settings. Maybe this can be a separate app, mode, or webpage of DADman called “DADmon”.
“DADmon” or “DADmonitor” will give the user access to predetermined monitor sections of DADman. For example I have a multi-purpose control room with two different audio monitoring positions. Position one will hit a page that only allows them access to their monitoring group. And position to goes to a webpage just for their monitor group.
This will allow us engineers to configure the room settings and routing without the operators having access to to change settings and monitor profiles. But still give them the button selections to change sources, Maybe Control|Pack presets and any associated metering. In this use case DADman is an Admin Tool while DADmon is a user tool. This will be very useful in large enterprise corporate environments. And in small production areas that would like to only focus on the monitor section without seeing or controlling all the bells and whistles.

What was shown at NAMM was the Skaarhoj Quick-bar. They make a ton of professional control panels for pro and broadcast gear. Exciting that NTP/DAD are partnering up to allow Skaarhoj products to control the presets. I hope the DAD does not stop with just the control of the Control|Pack features. There is a lot in DADman that I wish could be controlled and changed within the app via something like Skaarhoj Panels, Stream Decks and others. I love my MOM unit, but besides the monitor profile the control of DADman leaves a lot to be desired.
